How to Plan for the ACV Conference
& Craft Fair
We want you to be excited about what we’ve planned for you so here’s a brief description of the weekend along with a few suggestions and an outline of the agenda printed below:
We HIGHLY recommend you arrive Thursday night or early on Friday to take part in the ** optional** pre-conference Gallery Walk through the market area of downtown Roanoke. This activity promises to be an inspiring day as we visit local galleries and get to know each other. Intended as a festive outing to get you in the mood for what’s yet to come, the walking group will end the tour with a very special catered lunch at the exquisite Alexander’s restaurant. We hope you will plan to join us for this fun pre-conference tour!
Registration will begin at 2pm....and at that time the Silent Auction will be up and running! This year’s silent auction is something that you, as artisans, may not expect.....first of all....we’re not asking artisans to donate anything....isn’t that a switch! Rather, we’ve been gathering items from a wide range of very enthusiastic and diverse supporters who offer things you will simply drool over! The proceeds of our silent auction go toward helping us keep our conference registration fees as low as possible.
The conference program officially begins at 6:30 pm on Friday evening with a very special Meet-n-Greet Reception, hosted by Georganne Bingham, Executive Director of the Art Museum of Western Virginia. If you have not been witness to the raising of this magnificent new museum...a treat is in store for you because our reception will be hosted among the exhibit that shows the monumental progress being made as this newly – in construction - world class museum gains momentum toward it’s grand opening in the fall of 2008.
On Saturday, April 26, the program begins early for those of you who want to participate in an early morning stretch....don’t forget to bring your comfy workout clothes! (not only for this...but did you know the hotel has a fantastic work out facility!) With plenty of time to take in a shower and breakfast afterwards, the day will begin with our esteemed keynote at 9:00 am.
The rest of the day is full of exciting workshops and opportunities for you to mingle and share ideas with your peers.
Special discounted “On-Your-Own” buffet lunch as been arranged for conference participants....of course eating at the hotel for lunch on Saturday is optional, but we think you will agree that $12.95 for the gourmet spread is well worth the price....specially in light of how far it is to trek anywhere else and how fun it will be to have lunch conveniently located where you can convene informally with friends!
Later Saturday evening, we have a special Award’s banquet....no added cost to you as it is part of the registration package and the theme is a surprise so you won’t want to miss it!
As dinner ends, the party begins! We’ve hired a band....will have a cash bar set up and lots of fun interruptions to keep us all laughing and having fun as we continue to get to know each other through play and the sharing of ideas!
Some of you may choose to check out on Sunday.....we hope not! Because Sunday is the first annual ACV Craft Fair! We are very excited to begin this portion of the event for as you know helping artisans promote and sell their crafts is a huge part of our mission! This event is sponsored in part by the Roanoke Visitor and Convention Bureau and will be advertised far and wide to attract new patrons to your work! We hope you are planning to set up your booth for this one day craft explosion in Roanoke!
