Book Signing: Michael Thompson (World of Orb) and J. L. Hickey (Baptism of Apathy)
What began as daydreams and doodles in the margins of notebooks evolved into the world of Enkartai, and the debut novel of self-published author Michael Thompson. World of the Orb is the first publication to exemplify his love of science fiction and fantasy stories, as well as those featuring unique, dynamic ensembles of characters and the high-stakes challenges that elevate them into heroes. In World of Orb, best friends Marvin and Andy have just discovered the Museum of Natural History’s unnatural secret: The Orb, a mysterious relic that plunges these two modern teens into a medieval world of monsters, myth, and magic. To return home, they must embark on a global treasure hunt to unite five elemental crystals, all while eluding the eye of a tyrannical warlock bent on conquering the Realms. This isn’t the field trip they expected…
Baptism of Apathy’s poems were written over a period of eight years with many of the poems inspired by Walt Whitman. As the years go by and generations pass and one looks back on these poems, they can be recognized as emblematic of a marginalized voice in a long forgotten time. Religious imagery and language is a staple of this book. This is done to get the point across that every day we make choices that affect the world. Every day people coast through life half asleep and still others forget what great power they have, in their choice to love others or not to. This love is the solution to every problem, even in the world’s darkest days.
