Featured Artist Dan Perkins: Pottery
“I moved to Bedford in 1977, and was initially working at the hospital. In 1995, I started making pottery with a passion, and have always been interested in functional wares. My fraternal grandmother had a great deal of older pieces that she used in her home that were of interest to me. In enrolling in pottery classes in Roanoke, I did research as to how the older forms were made. I initially sold my wares at historic reenactments and now I make pottery for historic vendors in several states.
I make some non-functional pieces for decoration, but that’s a small portion of my output. I’ve also been able to reproduce agateware, (pottery made with colored clay’s). I’ve always been interested in history, as well as pottery’s impact on civilization. I’d like to think that some of my work will survive into the future and show up on “Antiques Road Show”!”
