Many pouring forms in ceramic art suggest animal postures, such as the spout lifting upwards like a baby bird reaching for food. In this class we’ll explore a more realistic approach of combining animal figures with hand built or wheel thrown pouring vessels. We’ll be thinking equally about both our pot’s shape and the gesture of our chosen creatures in order to create symbiotic “functional” sculptures. This class is for intermediate to advanced students who want to expand their approach to making and play with new ideas. Instruction will include wheel throwing, sculpting, and carving or texturing techniques. Be sure to bring all your favorite tools including a sketchbook!
