Description

Explore the exhibition “Into the outer reaches of a more golden land: the paintings of Connie Fox and featuring sculpture by William King.”

This exhibition presents the artistic development and evolution of Connie Fox within the context of 20th century avant-garde, and her continued work and legacy in the 21st century. While she absorbed the paintings of Old Masters through Abstract Expressionists, and most significantly early Modernists Paul Klee, Marcel Duchamp, Sonia Delaunay, and Max Beckmann, Connie’s work is an individual expression guided by intuition and the gestural hand of the painter. Her art is at once about feelings, memories, and a sense of what something is rather than what it looks like. Connie’s work has been described as calm, kinetic, convulsive, and “immune to art’s various ‘isms’.” This dichotomy is Connie’s unique stamp on expressionist abstraction, created by listening to her own voice and following her own vision.

Also included in the exhibition is her relationship with the sculptor Bill King, their work together - supportive but not interfering - with Bill placed within Connie’s world rather than vice-versa, which has been the case until now.
