Artist Statement:

Years ago, an accident drastically altered my life. Working with my hands started as a way to pass time. Drawn to Native American designs; I became interested in pine needle basketry. Reading the few books I could find on the technique, I sent my daughters out to collect needles. Today, I have switched to the stronger Loblolly needles which give the baskets a more refined and sturdier structure when woven with imitation sinew. It is incredible to create something from that which Nature has discarded. My other creative outlet, jewelry, started as a way to create with my daughters. Through studying books and online forums, my interest has switched from woven bead work to wire work. A relationship has to be developed with the wire, learning its moods, possibilities and limitations. The creating which started as a way to pass time has become a passion, a source of good energy, positive feelings and a way to transcend the limitaions and pain of my body. My hope is the viewer feels this joy and energy upon seeing my work.
