Two distinctive bodies have evolved from my original, painted, wood framed mirrors. While select designs continue to integrate painted elements, most of the work is now focused on the use of domestic hardwoods. Much of that wood is scrap material collected from local makers of fine furniture and musical instruments. I also use copper, leather, fibers, and steel that are gleaned from area craftsmen and scrap yards. One person’s trash IS another person’s treasure.
Mirror frames constitute one collection of designs - wall-mounted sculptures are the other. The sculptures present an opportunity for more varied and fluid expression, giving me an artistic application for the materials left over from creating frames, and an outlet for the rhythms, patterns, shapes, forms, and colors that dance in my head.
