Located in the Town of Washington, VA, pop. 135, artifacts-on-main is filled with unique work by regional sculptors, vintage architectural elements salvaged from historic buildings, iron objects, garden decor and planters, all carefully sourced throughout the U.S. and Europe by Robert & Joanie Ballard.
We are situated in an outdoor setting right on Main Street, just across from our sister-business, r.h. ballard shop & gallery, and one block from The Inn at Little Washington.
At Artifacts-on-Main we believe inspiration is everywhere, from the past and present, in sculpture, and especially in the small details of vintage found objects and architectural elements. It’s what made us start this business. We really love this quote from James Lowell Strickland.
“Wherever we go, small details like the depth of a windowsill, the shape of a wrought-iron stair rail, or the vestiges of a milk plant on a reclaimed pine plank capture our attention. Inspiration comes from the past and the present, the urban and the rural, the classical and the indigenous, the intricate and simple. It is everywhere, if you have the eyes to see.”
