I specialize in one-of-a-kind woodcarving creations and stone chiseled sculptures—all done by hand and in the traditional Tyrolean style of the Alpine carver and in the style of the American Southwestern sculptor. In recent years I have sought to make wood and stone pieces of art that are unique while displaying a sense of natural rhythm and flow.
Working with wood is more than creating a piece of art, rather it is discovering and bringing forth the beauty that is already within the wood and its grain. My focus is to work with, not against, the wood and allow that art-to-be piece to have a voice in what it will eventually become. When I work with stone the creation of movement is most critical to me. The ability to reveal a unique life-like spirit within the stillness of a piece of rock is extremely powerful and when done right it becomes to me a true definition of simple beauty. Bringing that stone to life to those who see it is my measure of success in all of my sculptures.
As a carver and a sculptor my intent is to bring forth from within each piece of wood or stone a hidden, yet unfinished, tale of beauty and movement that will engage the viewers and allow them to complete the story in their own personal ways.
