 Bower Center for the Arts

Make the Arts a Part of Your Life

The Bower Center is named for the mother and father of Bedford native, Dr. John Bower, whose generous donation allowed for the purchase of the building in 2005. Dr. Bower’s mother, Minnie, was an avid gardener and his father, Mitchell, was a local businessman, former mayor and tenor in the Bedford Presbyterian Church Choir. The Bower Center has been operating as an arts center since 2006, initially as Bedford Academy for the Arts.

Since 2006 Bower Center for the Arts has worked toward providing a cultural arts center in the heart of the Town of Bedford. Committed to strengthening the Bedford community and surrounding counties, the Center believes arts education is essential and creates arts-infused educational experiences for all age groups. With an annual Summer Arts Camp for grades 3 - 8, ongoing classes in Mosaics, Painting, Drawing, Yoga, and Tai-Chi, and new classes forming regularly, Bower Center provides an engaging and creative experience for all.

Our Cornerstone Gallery has authentic artisan-made pieces from local artists and are available for purchase.

On-site parking is available.

Bower Center for the Arts is a nonprofit art center located in Centertown Bedford. Our mission is to enrich the life of the community through the arts by fostering creative expression, offering diverse educational opportunities and preserving historic venues.

Monthly concerts in a variety of musical genres hit the performance stage, advancing contemporary, professional performing arts in every discipline.

In addition, Bower Center provides 8 private studio spaces for resident artists to engage in creativity and face-to-face dialogue away from the pressures and habits of daily life.
