Artisans Center of Virginia

 By The Bay Alpacas

Small alpaca farm features interaction with the animals as well as a fiber studio and gift shop.

By The Bay Alpacas offers a unique experience! Proprietors Tara King and Andrew Leach are happy to introduce visitors to the “alpaca lifestyle” and share their knowledge of these gentle creatures. After meeting their colorful herd, visitors are offered the opportunity to visit the fiber studio and learn about the steps of fiber preparation. Try your hand at carding or spinning! Alpaca’s are shorn once a year and Tara takes great pride in being able to take the luxurious alpaca fiber from the animal all the way to a finished product. As a fiber artist Tara uses a variety of techniques including, spinning, knitting, weaving and wet felting to create unique items and wearable art which are sold in our Farm Store. You will also find natural and hand dyed yarn and roving from our herd, along with teddy bears, sock monkeys and finger puppets. You may like to try our wonderfully warm, “hunter style” socks featuring our farm name! By The Bay Alpacas participates in a number of alpaca shows each year both in halter and in fleece and is proud of their 6X Champion Fawn Male ” By The Bay’s Bristol”, who is always happy to greet farm visitors! Events held at our farm each year are National Alpaca Farm Days in late September and The Eastern Shore Artisans Guild Annual Holiday Tour which is held Thanksgiving weekend. Be sure to check the ACV Calendar of Events for The Eastern Shore.
