As a former “Army brat” and military wife I have moved from place to place most of my life. The experience of constant changes of environment, people, ideas, and circumstances has helped me to look at things differently. I have explored many different techniques and media from pen and ink and watercolors to puppets and costuming to paper mache and automata. I like the challenge of variety, and incorporating new ideas and concepts into my art. My family has said I have creative attention deficit issues, I say there are just too many cool crayons in the box not to try them all.
Felting currently takes my focus because felting allows me to immerse myself in a medium that encompasses sculpture, painting, art, craft, costuming and whimsy. I can begin a project that starts as a “painting” evolves into a sculpture and then in the end is realized as a piece of costuming. Of course these kinds of zigs and zags require a pretty good sense of humor to be able to move with the work. This is why my work is often described as whimsical because that wink to amusement is generally seen.
