Visit Studio J and release your inner child.
Welcome to my world. Studio J is a world where an apple does not have to be red or yellow; it can be turquoise or purple or any other color I decide it can or I
want it to be. I have finally given myself permission to express what I feel or the feeling I want to convey and it is usually with color. My world is one that
is free and can be very fanciful but it is always fun. People ask “What do you paint”? I really don’t know how to answer that question as I am assuming they
think I can paint only one thing. Now, after saying that, I have to admit that much of my prior work was very realistic and very traditional but my subjects
are definitely varied.
I began painting in oils and then pastels now I have moved on to watercolor and I’m having more fun than should be legal. It’s a whole new world for me and one
that really allows me to experiment and to use other mediums in my work. Much of my recent work is multimedia. I also work with alcohol inks because they are
uncontrollable and I love the freedom and the jewel tone colors of the inks.
I teach individual watercolor and alcohol inks classes in my home studio.
I am a woman of who wears many hats but I can promise you that I only have one head. I also make fused glass jewelry which I also really like doing as so many times what comes out of the kiln is just not what you expected and so many times so much better but there are the other time when major re-creation must be done. I will be offering classes in fused glass in the fall of 2017.
My 3rd or 4th hat is my business hat. I bring internationally-known art teachers to the area for week-long workshops. I also sponsor international trips, Ajijic, MX this year with Cathy Herndon and retreats to the Outer Banks of NC. These retreats are with Pat Troiani and water media only. This business is Two Rivers Art Workshops. Teachers coming in 2017—Sheryl Williams (alcohol inks) Gerald Brommer (collage) and Don Andrews (watercolor). Coming in 2018 and 19—Carol Nelson (abstract with water media), Tom Lynch (watercolor), Tom Nuttell (water media), and more. Check my website for more information.
I am in the beginning stages of starting Collage Societies (under the National Collage Society and with the Virginia Collage Society’s assistance) in the Fredericksburg, VA area and in Lusby, MD. If you are interested, please get in touch with me.
I hope you will visit me in my studio or take time to see my works at the venues listed.
