My pottery is available at C’ville Arts in Charlottesville, Va. on the Monticello Artisan Trail.
My goal is to successfully connect with people’s daily routines and rituals by creating thoughtfully made everyday objects. The highest compliment for my work is, “I use your pottery every day.”
I enjoy incorporating texture and color into a well balanced, form, whose subtle curves and angles invite repeated use, whether for a quiet cup of tea, a hot bowl of soup, or a unique presentation of your favorite recipe.
Nature is an inspiration always. The palette of the changing seasons creeps in, as do plant and animal images that reflect a mood or quality I admire or enjoy.
All work is handmade, predominantly on the potter’s wheel. On many pieces, colored liquid clays are painted on to damp clay, then shapes are refined with a sharp tool and texture is added. Other pots are sequentially dipped in glazes and wax resist to attain a rich landscape-like effect. The pots are fired to 2200F, creating a strong and durable pot that is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.
