Peter H. Miller, of P.H. Miller Studio, is a master craftsman who designs and creates traditional and modern furniture, art frames and decorative arts objects – all by hand - in his Berryville, VA, studio. Honing his craft for more than 30 years, he uses ages-old, specialized techniques in wood working, carving and, water and oil gilding to personally create and finish every aspect of his original designs. He also restores gilded antiques and heirlooms. His clients include the G.W. Bush Presidential Library; the Honolulu Academy of Arts; David A. Schorsch - Eileen M. Smiles American Antiques; G. Sergeant Antiques; architectural firms, interior designers and private individuals around the world. The P.H.Miller Studio Portfolio page showcases examples of Peter’s work.
“My specialty is frame-making and restoration. I believe a frame’s highest value is its effect on the viewer’s perception of the painting or image. The marriage between painting and frame is a balance of scale, detail, color and texture.
“I also design and create furniture and decorative objects. I am moved to work on projects that inspire me. While an Interior Designer is tasked with designing and creating a room within a home, I create furniture and decorative arts that become part of the client’s living environment.”
In January 2017, the P. H. Miller Studio, frame-makers redesigned the showroom to include a gallery in order to showcase fellow wood artisans hand craft. The ongoing exhibit, entitled “When the Wood Speaks to Me” includes woodturnings, furniture and wood sculpture by Northern Virginia wood artisans Gary Smith, Mark Zimmerman, Mike Fraser, Don and Harriet Maloney, Ron Light and Peter Miller.
