All my pottery is wheel-thrown stoneware. The animal pots are assembled from thrown parts, sculpturally altered, and hand-carved. The carved traditional pottery is designed free-hand without molds or templates. I use oxides to bring out the textures and details for the most part, combining them with underglazes when color is needed. The interiors are glazed for use.
I have spent my life captivated by the beauty and variety of Mother Earth. What so many overlook as mundane I take great joy in; the curl of a leaf, angles in the tree limb, the grace and beauty of both flora and fauna. It is a great joy to me to take the raw earth (clay) and create forms that give the holder and viewer an echo of this delight. We are all bound to the Earth and I would like for my work to reflect the joy of this bond in the heart of the beholder.
