The Virginia Institute of Blacksmithing (VIB) was founded to offer information and instruction in traditional blacksmithing ranging from beginning blacksmithing, technique and project driven classes to advanced certification. Classes at the Virginia Institute of Blacksmithing are open to men and women of all ages and skill level.
Blacksmithing classes are taught by Dale Morse, a blacksmith with 37 years forging experience. Visiting instructors are also available for specialized courses. The VIB facility located in Waynesboro, Virginia has capacity for eleven blacksmithing students per class. An assortment of modern and antique equipment is used including coal and gas forges, anvils, hand-held and power hammers, band-saws and swages.
VIB also offers classes in metal jewelry work taught by Karen Friedlander and Mig/Fabrication welding, taught by David Hall.
Please visit the Virginia Artisans Center ‘Calendar of Events’ page for a listing of classes. A schedule of classes and additional information may be found at www.vablacksmithing.org
