Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community Foundation Original Art Competition

Deadline: Letter of Interest due on Wednesday, September 19 by 5:00pm

The VMRC Foundation has recently completed a $3.8 million fundraising campaign to benefit our residents and community. We are commissioning a piece of artwork that recognizes our donors and celebrates the community’s values. The selected artist will be the one who is best able to express our mission and values in a unique but accessible fashion and to explain the artistic concepts behind the creation.

The selected artwork will be installed in the renovated Oak Lea Transitional Care complex, visible to residents, families, staff, and guests.

The Waterford Fair 30th Annual Photography Exhibit and Sale, October 5-7, 2018

Deadline: Wednesday, September 26, 2018 by 5 PM

The Waterford Fair invites you to participate in the 30th Annual Photography Exhibit and Sale!

Photographers of all skill levels are welcome to submit images for exhibit and judging, or other photography works for sale only

Photographs submitted for judging are eligible to win ribbons and $1,500 in cash prizes.

This year, the exhibit will be held at the Red Barn in the center of the village….guaranteeing healthy foot traffic. To prepare your entry, simply follow the three steps listed below:

Photographs will be judged according to the category submitted and for Best in Show.

Winners of each category, including Best in Show, will receive a blue ribbon and a $100 award, except for the Best Loudoun Photograph, which will receive a $500 award from Loudoun Now

Ribbons will also be awarded for second, third and honorable mention.

The Waterford Fair 70th Annual Fine Art Exhibit and Sale, October 5-7, 2018

The Waterford Fair invites you to participate in the 70th Annual Fine Art Exhibit and Sale!

FINE ART: The Waterford Fair Fine Art Exhibit is a judged show. There is a limit of two (2) entries per artist. Prizes will be awarded. Artists of all skill levels are welcome to submit images for exhibit and judging. There are no sales price restrictions on work in the Fine Art Exhibit. NFS entries are also acceptable though we encourage you to put your work for sale in this exhibition opportunity.

Entry for Exhibit and Judging:

• A maximum of two pieces may be entered for exhibit and judging, whether or not they are offered for sale

• You may enter any category. Please indicate if your piece is a Waterford Scene and if you are a Loudoun Artist on the form for each piece

• All artwork must be original and created within the last two years

• All artwork must be matted, framed, and ready to hang. Gallery-wrapped canvases with finished edges are also accepted. All works must have screw eyes or D-rings and wires attached. No saw tooth hangers! No wet paintings

• Artists who submit work for exhibit and judging may also enter works for sale at the Art Mart. Please fill out submission form for the Art Mart separately. All Art Mart fees also apply

• The total outer dimensions of the piece must be no larger than 144 inches (e.g. 36” x 36” or comparable)

32nd annual Materials Hard + Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition, February 1–May 4, 2019

Deadline: September 30, 2018

This event takes place in Denton, Texas and artists are NOT required to travel.

Greater Denton Arts Council presents the 32nd annual Materials Hard + Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition. The call is open to craft artists who have created works in the past 2 years (2016-2018) in the following media: clay, fiber, glass, metal, paper, wood, or any combination of craft media.

All work must be ready for installation and are restricted to a weight limit of no more than 75 pounds. Artists are responsible for shipping costs. Selected artists will receive 1 copy of the exhibitions catalog.

This year’s juror is Janet McCall of Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She will select about 70 pieces for the exhibition. Juror awards will be given out in the following amounts: $1,000, $750, $500, and $250.

Exhibition runs from February 1 – May 4, 2019 at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center in Denton, Texas.

The fee is $40 (USD), and covers up to three (3) entries.

Green Market at Stonefield

The Shops at Stonefield in Charlottesville is planning a twice weekly market. The market will be held on the lawn, under a large tent on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. We are committed to establishing a vibrant, community market that allows local producers the opportunity to provide goods directly to consumers.

In addition to local growers and food producers, the market is seeking local artisans.
The market fee is $25/market. Thursday’s market will feature musical entertainment and Saturday’s will have a calendar of events including entertainment, community outreach and other activities.

ACV Affiliate and Northern Neck Artisan Trail member Historic Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville, sells locally-crafted artisan wares in their “Heritage Arts Center” Gift shop. Over 75 local artists and craftspeople are currently consigned and they are looking for more. The Tavern Restaurant is onsite, keeping the same hours as the Gift Shop, attracting visitors for their breakfast, lunch and pub favorites, so patrons can eat a tasty meal and then shop. The hours are Tuesday thru Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and ntil 9 p.m. on Fridays (Pub Night), giving products exposure to shoppers five days a week. ACV Affiliate member Colonial Folk Art Studio & Gallery is looking for artists to participate in Art in the ‘Burg. Art in the ‘Burg is a new series of art fairs sponsored by the Williamsburg Arts District Association (WADA) and coordinated by Colonial Folk Art held in the heart of the newly formed Williamsburg Arts District. The first Art in the ‘Burg will be May 23 at 110 Bacon Ave., Williamsburg, Va. Subsequent fairs will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every other Saturday (bi-weekly) until Nov. 14. WADA is currently seeking Virginia artists and craftsmen, especially those from the Williamsburg region, to show and sell. Many forms of art welcomed including primitive, painting, sculpture, woodworking, ceramics, etc. $25 fee for single artists with partial reimburesement upon completion of show.

ACV Affiliate and HeART and Soil of the Shenandoah Valley Artisan Trail Site, the Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro VA

ACV Affiliate and HeART and Soil of the Shenandoah Valley Artisan Trail Site, the Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro VA, is accepting new artisans for their gift shop. The shop at SVAC has been growing ever since we started it in 2010 and as an artisan you will get a chance to showcase and sell your work with a minimum time and financial commitment (20-40% commission and 3 hour volunteer shift) each month. SVAC takes care of all the sales and commissions. Your responsibilities are to, track your inventory, volunteer for SVAC, file and track your own sales tax. They are looking for all kinds of 3D works and individually wrapped prints and cards. Please submit up to three photos of each type of item that you make. For example, if you are a jeweler you would need to submit three photos of necklaces that show your style. They do not need an image of every single item you intend to exhibit. They are looking at examples of your craftsmanship and creativity. If you need to show scale, please use a quarter or dollar bill in the photo next to your work. After acceptance, SVAC will schedule an appointment for you to bring your work to SVAC and fill out inventory sheets, price your items, and schedule your volunteer time.
