About

The Virginia Oyster Trail is a visitor-directed experiential “journey of discovery” program focused on the Virginia Oyster; highlighting participating watermen/aqua-artisan/mariculture businesses. The Trail invites community narratives, featuring many oyster-related hospitality, creative, culinary, cultural and activity points of interest to extend visitor engagement.

Fundamental to highlighting visitor experiences within an eco-tourism framework that includes interactive online trip planning options, the program focuses on increasing awareness of the benefits Virginia Oysters have on local economies, with emphasis on community development, environmental stewardship, entrepreneurial growth, health attributes and the cultural integration of Virginia’s distinctive aquaculture and coastal way of life.

The Virginia Oyster Trail operates under the guidance of an industry-focused Action Team. The hands-on team is made up of select member stakeholders to include but not be limited to public officials, state agency representatives, economic development, tourism, private/public organizations and Virginia’s oyster-related businesses.

We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of these organizations and individuals, who, through their commitment to the Virginia Oyster Trail, are contributing to its success.

We’re not building a trail. We’re cultivating local economy.

There’s a great deal of excitement as communities in Virginia’s eight oyster flavor regions from the Potomac to Hampton Roads/Tidewater and on up to the seaside of the Eastern Shore embrace the Trail while businesses all across the Commonwealth who are incorporating Virginia Oyster focused activities are additionally invited to connect to the Coastal Region through participation as members on the Trail.
