About Historic Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern:

Rice’s Hotel / Hughlett’s Tavern is a historic ‘Courthouse’ Tavern, dating back to the late 1700’s. The Tavern houses our “Heritage Arts Center” gift shop, which sells locally-made artisan wares, our Artisan Cafe’, and a number of artisans at work in their studios. This includes the Tavern Spinners & Weavers Guild Studio upstairs, and the Tavern Quilt Guild’s Studio on the first floor.

Out back, our working Forge is the home of the Tavern Blacksmith Guild. Inside the Carriage House, the Tavern Woodworkers Guild has both a modern and a colonial era workshop.

The Tavern’s four artisan guilds also meet separately. The Quilt Guild holds a monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of the month. The Blacksmith Guild meets Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The Woodworkers Guild meetings are on Fridays. The Spinners and Weavers Guild meets on Wednesdays and Saturdays. (Call for hours.)

All guilds are in residence at our Farmers Markets, held monthly 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the third Saturday, April thru October. The Tavern also offers classes in the Heritage Arts, such as basket-making, weaving, spinning, blacksmithing, quilting, jewelry-making and more. (Check our web site for the current course schedule.)

The Artisan Cafe’ sells homemade soups and fresh-baked bread, made by our new Culinary Guild. The Tavern is overseen by a non-profit foundation, and is operated entirely by volunteers.
